Convert a Gregorian Date to Hijri

Enter the Gregorian day, month and year, then press Convert (years 1900 to 2076). For the other direction use Hijri to Gregorian, or the two-way converter.

Gregorian date

Example

Tuesday 9 March 2027 is 1 Shawwal 1448 AH.

Good to know

The result uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, so it can differ by one day from the Hijri date used in your country. Use the adjustment box to move the result by one day if your country announced a different start of the month.

About accuracy: dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar. The start of a month may differ by one day from the official announcement in your country, which is based on moon sighting. You can adjust the day (±1) above, and you can read how we calculate.

How this tool works

This tool converts a Gregorian date to Hijri using the Umm al-Qura calendar built into your browser. All the calculation happens on your device and the dates you type are never sent to a server. It validates the date (it rejects 30 February, for example) and supports the years 1900 to 2076.

Worked examples

Friday 1 January 2027 corresponds to 23 Rajab 1448 AH, and Sunday 15 March 2020 corresponds to 20 Rajab 1441 AH.

Common questions

Is the result official?

It is a calculation with the Umm al-Qura calendar, not an official announcement. A month can start one day away from the announcement in your country, which is based on moon sighting, and you can adjust the day by plus or minus one. Details are on the How we calculate page.

Why can the date differ in the evening?

The Hijri day begins at sunset, while the date shown here changes at midnight in your device’s time zone. In the hours between sunset and midnight you may therefore see a one-day difference.

What range of dates is supported?

Gregorian 1900 to 2076, which corresponds to 1318 to 1500 AH, the limits of the Umm al-Qura calendar in the browser.
